The
Swift Center-Pin Trotting Reel
LIMITED EDITION
 Background
After requests for an updated version of the "Leeds Classic",
we are proud to announce the launch of the "Swift" trotting
reel. The design of our ratchet system is based on similar lines
to the classic on/off method used on the vintage Alcocks "Aerial",
and is therefore a well tested device. The upgrading of the "Leeds
Classic" reel has been achieved by the use of modern day anodising
techniques, and individual serial numbering system. The on/off twist
knob of the audible ratchet is mounted on the back-plate, close
to the saddle casting, thus making it ideally positioned for finger
tip control with the hand that holds the rod. This mechanism is
not only a drag to help tire the fish being landed, but is also
a very useful spool check, thus enabling tackling-up or moving along
the river bank, achieved unhindered by an unravelling reel. The
pawl is mounted on a brass pivot plate by means of a simple spring
loaded system which enable jolts and shock loads to be absorbed
without damage to the contact faces of either the pawl or ratchet
gear, thus giving longer life.
Application
The "Swift" is an individualised free running reel which
is suitable for fishing close margins where a free running bait
is advisable. This reel is eminently suited for the fisherman who
wants to experience the traditional techniques of using a center-pin
whilst stalking that illusive 'big-one'. The reel can be used both
in confined conditions, where over hanging vegetation makes casting
difficult, and in open areas, where its friction free action allows
for rapid casting and retrieving, together with effortless trotting
in the slowest of streams.
As an all aluminium
construction, the "Swift" is both lightweight, and is
strong and durable. Two small precision ball bearings in the central
hub, are positioned as far apart as possible to reduce any potential
'wobble'. These bearings also ensure a trouble and friction free
rotational action which is extremely sensitive to finger touch control.
This control is enhanced by the addition of a thumb knurl applied
around the outer edge of the spool, thus giving a sensitive regulation
of the spool action. As with all good center-pin reels, the angler
is in much closer contact with the fish due to direct sensing of
the line through his finger tips. This method also reduces the incidents
of fish loss, due to the fact that the fish can be played with more
finesse that with other reels, hence keeping the fisherman in constant
contact with the fish.
The rivetted
spool assembly is both light and extremely rugged, thus making it
suitable for landing the biggest of fish. The whole reel is anodised
light blue for resistance to corrosion, and ensures a long and durable
life. Furthermore, the spool has a characteristically flared rim
for added strength to the assembly.
These strong,
rugged, and well made reels are designed for the discerning fisherman
who wishes to complement his range tackle, and thus give him the
'edge' when competing for that 'big-one'.
